I love that CrossFit has no prerequisites, no boundaries, it doesn’t discriminate. You don’t have to be able to run a mile, lift hundreds of pounds, or be able to climb the rope to start.
I first tried CrossFit in August 2013. Originally hearing about it on Facebook from my little “sister” in California. I was too afraid to go alone so I waited until a friend was willing and able to go with me. After the first day I was hooked, I drank the Kool-Aid, joined the cult, whatever you want to call it. I was in love with it. I recently got my Level 1 certification in March 2015. Although I’m fairly new to coaching this sport, I’m not new to coaching.
I have been a swim coach both privately and for clubs in various aspects of the sport. Transferring what I know about how the body moves in water into how it moves on land and under weight has proven useful to me as I coach my athletes in the gym. I love that CrossFit has no prerequisites, no boundaries, it doesn’t discriminate. You don’t have to be able to run a mile, lift hundreds of pounds, or be able to climb the rope to start. Anyone can do this, you just have to want to try. You go until you hit your own boundaries that day. Then the next time you do it again and the next time after that.
Before you know it, your boundaries are further than you ever thought possible. That’s also what I love about coaching at CrossFit 623. Seeing these athletes find their own new limits and then push past them, day after day. Helping them get stronger physically and mentally, build more confidence in and out of the gym, because it’s all relative. This pushes me to be better as a coach and also as an athlete. I want to see just how far I can get in this sport. I want to be the best version of myself for my sons. To lead by example for them.
