When you hear someone say they do CrossFit, the first thing that comes to mind is weight loss; not the case with Annette. In fact, it was the opposite. For a while she has been hiding in layered clothing to hide her body, she was very self-conscious. We’ve hosted several nutritional challenges, such as the “Lean & Mean” and “Hulk & Bulk.” Annette was one of the few people who wanted to “bulk.” We had tailored specific workouts and put her on a diet. Within months, she was able to reach the goal that she’s been trying to reach for years. We are so proud of your accomplishment. Continue reading to hear Annette’s story.
A Message From Annette
I was introduced to CrossFit when we were stationed in Washington by my best friend Maddy. It wasn’t something I was interested in because, honestly, I just didn’t get it. I still went to classes once a week, but it wasn’t something that I stayed interested in. When we got stationed in Arizona, a good friend of mine, Shay, told me she was going to try CrossFit at a local box called CrossFit 623. She extended the invite, but I passed. But I wanted to appease her, so I came with her during one of the “bring a friend” days.
Before CrossFit, I was running and going to the gym doing pretty much the same routine, but not really getting the results I wanted. Sometimes I would even spend two hours in the gym. I always assumed I had to maintain a certain weight, because I was so short.
I weighed about 105 pounds then and told myself I could not go over 110. When I came to CF623 and saw just how amazing the other girls looked, I realized not to focus on the scale. I now weigh 120 pounds and have more confidence than I ever did before.
After my first WOD at 623, there was no doubt in my mind that I would return the next day and if I was coming back Natazha was coming with me. I came back to 623 because from the moment I walked through the door I felt a sense of belonging, like I had always belonged here. 623 made me realize that I can do things I never thought I could do in a million years. For the first time, I’m seeing results that I’ve been trying for years to achieve. After I had my two children, my body changed in ways that made me embarrassed. I never like to show certain parts of my body, so I would always layer my shirts and shorts. CrossFit has given me back the confidence I had lost. Even my husband noticed the confidence it’s given me and is happy because I’m happy.
My goal is to continue to improve – whether it be lifts, time, or form. I always have room for improvement. I want to be stronger. I continue to CrossFit because it pushes my body to limits I never thought possible. The adrenaline and the rush is something I don’t think you can get from any other work out. But what I like most about 623 is no doubt the people from the coaches to my fellow athletes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt I’ve had nothing left in me during a WOD and there’s always been someone right next to me, motivating me. It means a lot when someone takes a second out of their WOD just to give me a push when I’m struggling. Regardless of how tired someone is after their WOD, they always have that extra energy to give that final push to finish.
